Have you ever experienced something unpredictable that turned out to be one of the best things to happen to you? Something that opened doors of opportunity, but that you never could have planned for?
One of our clients was a civil servant getting ready to retire. He had worked for a governmental entity for his entire career and he had worked a lot. It was pretty much all he knew.
As he was approaching retirement we met to have a conversation in order to discuss taxes and his next steps. While we were talking, it became clear that he had no idea what he wanted to do next. For most of his adult life he had spent the majority of his time working and now it seemed it was all he really knew how to do. Or so he thought.
Despite not knowing what his next adventure in life would hold for him, our client expressed that he was looking forward to the change and the chance to do something different.
It was nice to just be open to opportunities.
Opportunities Are Always There if You Pay Attention
Within a few weeks of retiring, our client began to get phone calls from friends and colleagues who were working on projects and needed his help. Many of them needed introductions to people he had relationships with in order to move forward with their project.
It turned out that our client was wielding a massive amount of influence. He started identifying opportunities in which he could capitalize on that influence and before he knew it he had created his own business.
About four years after retiring he had quintupled the amount of money that he had saved for retirement after working for 30 years. We guarantee you he did not see this coming!
Often in life we are presented with incredible opportunities that can change our lives. However, many of us are too preoccupied with playing it safe or sticking with what we’ve always known and we don’t even see the opportunities in front of us. We miss out.
The Tembo team invites you to remember to stay open to opportunities just as our client did. You never know what is waiting for you around the next corner, but it might be exactly what you need!
